Accounting Clerk The Metcalfe

The Metcalfe Hotel is seeking an Accounting Clerk to join our team. Steeped in history and modern in design, The Metcalfe Hotel is an independent boutique hotel with a commitment to deliver an Ottawa experience with a genuine authentic approach. Located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, The Metcalfe Hotel has 108 guest rooms, 8 meeting rooms. We will be re-opening early summer 2022 after undergoing major renovations to our restaurant and an upgrade to our guest rooms.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Analyze and coordinate revenue audit functions to ensure that all financial transactions for the day are verified and balanced;
• Check, balance and prepare commissions for sending to the head office;
• Proper verification of front office, night audit and restaurant accounting procedures.
• General cashiering, deposit reconciliation, cash float distribution and auditing.

• Responsible for all accounts receivable functions from invoice preparation, distribution to clients and timely collection of payments.
• Create, charge and close various corporate and guest house accounts.
• Respond to customer inquiries concerning payments, credit cards and other accounting issues.
• Research and approve credit applications / respond to credit references.
• Reduce and respond to credit card charge backs.
• Support front office with billing inquiries.

• Ensure the coordination, preparation, communication of group invoices;
• Attend pre-conference meetings to receive and set up the desired billing elements;
• Complete month end procedures including journal entries, billing of house accounts, completion of all AR reconciliation and reports.

• Support Night Auditors by training on the night audit functions and meeting with the team on a regular basis
• Ensure any required follow up with employees is completed in a timely manner.
• Recommend credit initiatives/policies
• Various duties as required,
• Work closely with the other hotel departments in maintaining guest and employee satisfaction
• Promote and participate in The Metcalfe service culture
• Manage and solve any accounting issues that may arise
• Ensure all company policies are followed with regards to financial transactions
• Follow & promote all hotel guest safety measures and health & safety standards including strictly following & enforcing all Covid policies and procedures
• Follow Company policies and procedures
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned by the General Manager or Company Director of Finance.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• 2-3 years’ experience or equivalent education in accounting
• Hotel accounting and/or front office experience an asset.
• Experience with Opera/Opera Cloud an asset.
• Strong knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook required.
• Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
• Bilingual (French and English) an asset.
• Positive attitude, willingness to learn and grow.
• Ability to adapt.
• Logical thinker, organized, able to manage time effectively.
• Detail oriented
• Maintain professional and positive attitude at all times.
